Terms of Use
Effective 2026-08-05
These terms govern your use of NameRanky(“the site”). By using the site you agree to them. If you do not, please stop using it.
1. What the information is, and is not
Rankings, counts, state distributions, and character candidates are reference material compiled from public datasets, principally the U.S. Social Security Administration's Popular Baby Names files and the Supreme Court of Korea's birth-registration statistics. We do not guarantee accuracy or completeness, and our copy may lag a source revision.
Three points are easy to misread, so we state them plainly. A Korean ranking for a year still in progress is a running total, not a final figure. A name absent from a US state list means fewer than five occurrences there that year, not zero. And we never assert which Chinese characters a Korean name uses; we list the permitted candidates per syllable. The methodology page documents each rule.
The site provides no naming advice, fortune telling, or prediction of any kind. Decisions you make are your own, and anything with legal effect should be confirmed against the issuing institution's own records.
2. Intellectual property and citation
The underlying statistics belong to their publishers. SSA data is a US federal work in the public domain; Korean court statistics are released under the Korea Open Government Licence. Per-source licences are listed on data sources. Our editorial selection, structure, written summaries, and charts belong to NameRanky.
If you are quoting a raw figure, cite the publisher. If you are reusing something we built, such as a rank history, a regional breakdown, or a chart, cite NameRanky too. Every name page carries an embed snippet with attribution already included, which is the simplest way to reuse a chart correctly.
3. Prohibited use
Automated bulk scraping, disruption of the service, and unauthorized commercial redistribution are prohibited. Search engine crawlers are exempt.
If you need a dataset for research, ask instead of scraping. Write to us and we will usually send the file. The underlying data is public either way, so there is no reason to take it in a way that loads the server.
4. Advertising and external links
The site may serve third-party advertising. Cookie use by advertising providers and the available opt-outs are described in our privacy policy. We are not responsible for the content of sites we link to.
5. Liability and governing law
The site is provided “as is”. We are not liable for direct or indirect damages arising from use of the information, and service may be interrupted or content removed without notice.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, where the site is operated, with venue in the courts having jurisdiction over the operator's address.
6. Changes
If these terms change we update the effective date on this page. Continued use after a change means you accept the revised terms.
